C is for Canna. Their floppy red or yellow flowers are so cheering! Their seed pods not so much - those look more like turgid testicles - but inside are these smooth and nutlike seeds. The seed coating is so hard that I have to "scarify" them so that a bit of the inner white is exposed, or else they will take forever to germinate. Now they are soaking, which will help the process. Later today, I'll plant them. Each seed is a unique individual, much like us humans. There's no guarantee they'll turn out the same as their parent flower. I will only know what colour they'll be when (or if) they bloom. A bit like us .. sometimes it's our wounds that make us what we are.
